What is UPrint?
UPrint is the wireless and networked printing solution for UM students, faculty and staff at the Coral Gables and Medical campuses. It is a user-friendly application based on the “Green U” initiative and should encourage responsible printing and copying.
What services does UPrint provide?
UPrint provides several services:
- Wireless printing on campus (after you download the UPrint drivers)
- Black & White and Color Copying
- UPrint Mobile access from your UMail (Outlook) account on any smart device
- Scanning with Global Scan (this service is free - you can scan any document and send it to yourself via email.)
These services are available using the computers at any of the libraries or computer labs at the Coral Gables and Medical campuses. You can also access them using your personal laptops if you download the proper UPrint drivers, which are available for Windows and Mac platforms.
How do I print with UPrint?
UM students and faculty can print using their UM ID cards, which are preloaded with UPrint credit at the beginning of school year in the fall semester. UM employees, JMH staff and guests must obtain a UPrint card from the Calder Library Circulation Desk. Printing funds are added to your UPrint account via credit card.
For more details on how to print from computers in the Library, visit the Circulation Desk for instructions and handouts. You can also visit the UPrint page on the University of Miami website for more information. The Canon Support Desk is also available for service issues at

The Spanish edition of the Desk Reference to the Diagnostic Criteria from DSM-5™ (Guia de Consulta de los Criterios Diagnósticos del DSM-5™) is now available as a PDF at the Psychiatry Online DSM Library. This new publication may also be accessed by going directly to the DSM Library collection on PsychiatryOnline, and through the Calder Library Website eDatabases tab. DSM-5 is the latest edition (2013) of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, used by psychiatrists and psychologists to diagnose patients who suffer from mental illness.
The Spanish Edition of the Desk Reference should be used as a practical guide for Spanish-speakers in conjunction with the English version of DSM-5. Both publications contain the ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM Codes for each of the mental disorders. The Spanish Edition has two sections: Section 1 has basic concepts of the DSM-5 and instructions on how to use the manual and Section 2 has the list of all the diagnostic criteria with the codes.
Also in the DSM Library are the DSM-5 Handbook of Differential Diagnosis and DSM-5 Clinical Cases. The DSM-5 Handbook of Differential Diagnosis provides a six-step diagnostic framework, decision trees, and differential diagnosis tables (one for each of the most important DSM-5 disorders) which “should improve clinicians’ skills in formulating a comprehensive differential diagnosis by presenting the problem from a number of different perspectives.” The DSM-5 Clinical Cases book features 103 cases “chosen to demonstrate one or more DSM-5 diagnoses and each of the cases is followed by a short diagnostic discussion.” The cases were based on actual patients. According to the authors, “both books can be used by people outside the mental health field, although both books emphasize that seasoned clinical judgment is often required to differentiate the normal from the pathological in regard to the making of an overall diagnosis, the assessment of specific diagnostic criteria, and the recognition of important comorbidities.” - Quoted from PsychiatryOnline

Dr. Frances Collins, NIH Director, recently announced the launching of the Accelerating Medicines Partnership (AMP) which will “strive to identify better targets so we can develop better drugs at a faster pace.” Participants include the NIH, Foundation for the NIH, 10 biopharmaceutical firms (AbbVie, Biogen Idec, Bristol-Myers Squibb, GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson, Lilly, Merck, Pfizer, Sanofi, Takeda) and several non-profit organizations and patient-advocacy groups (Alzheimer’s Association, American Diabetes Association, Lupus Foundation of America, Foundation for the NIH, Geoffrey Beene Foundation, PhRMA, Rheumatology Research Foundation, USAgainstAlzheimer’s).
The AMP will begin by investing $230 million in pilot projects in three disease areas:
• Alzheimer’s disease
• Type 2 Diabetes
• Autoimmune Disorders (Lupus and Rheumatoid arthritis)
The cost will be shared 50% by NIH and private industry. The 3-5 year pilot projects will set the stage for broadening AMP to other diseases and conditions. This joint collaboration will take advantage of “recent advances in genomics, proteomics, imaging, and other technologies which have led to the discovery of more than a thousand risk factors for common diseases—biological changes that ought to hold promise as targets for drugs,” stated Dr. Collins in a press conference on February 4th, at Washington, DC.

UpToDate now offers the option of searching an extensive library of high-quality graphics, including more than 27,000 pictures, tables, illustrations, diagrams, graphs, algorithms and videos, without using a separate search engine. After entering the search term(s)—it can be a disease, symptom, laboratory abnormality, procedure, or drug; click on the Graphics link to quickly and easily search the database for graphics related to that topic. For example, in a search for “anemia,” results include a series of algorithms for treatment of anemia, pictures of anemia-induced skin conditions, pictures of blood smears, radiographs and angiographs, multiples graphs comparing treatments, tables of risk factors, practice guidelines, and useful information that will enhance the clinician’s ability to diagnose and treat patients. Graphics results are presented as thumbnails with titles (see below). Click on any thumbnail to enlarge the image. Once the image is enlarged, it can be sent by email, printed, or exported to MS PowerPoint (PPT), making this resource useful for enhancing instructional materials (when “Export” is selected the specific image is converted into a fully-referenced PPT slide). Each graphic also provides references and links to related topics of interest (look for “Appears in Topics”).
To learn more about conducting a Graphics Search, sharing information with patients or colleagues, and exporting graphics to a presentation, watch a short video tutorial that can be found at: www.uptodate.com/home/help-demo.
