PubMed Central (PMC) is the digital repository of free articles from the National Library of Medicine. PMC includes the historical archives of some journals, as well as current research articles. All of the journals in PubMed Central are freely available to researchers and some are open access, which means they are available under a license which allows for more liberal distribution. You may have heard about PubMed Central when reading about the NIH Public Access Policy and the requirements for NIH-funded researchers.
