It is built of coquina and Portland cement and is in reality one solid stone. There is no paint on the building, but the beautiful colors and tints are produced by the natural color of the materials used--the coquina being a creamy yellow, the roof of red Spanish tiling, and the ornamentation of rich genuine terra-cotta. The balconies and towers are of solid terra-cotta and weigh 5 tons each.
