Florida zoo als het van de Spaanschen en Franschen wordt bezeten, Paris, ca. 1705.
By Sanson, Nicolas (1600-1667).
Sanson’s map illustrates Spanish colonies and politically enhanced French colonies of present-day Southern United States. Though French presence was absent for over a hundred years in the “Floride Francoi” region, France reasserted claims over the land. Present-day Florida is labeled “Tegesta Prov,” which is a reference to the Tequesta natives. The Dutch language edition of the map is uncommon.
