Indian Representation of the Costumes of the Ynca and his Queen

Location: Peru

Description:

"Plate I. contains the delineation of the costumes of the Ynca and his Queen, as represented by the modern Indians in their processions" (19). Thus, from the description of the colored engraving, we are aware that this is ceremonial dress. The ornamental aspects of the costume are all gold, and the clothing itself seems to be heavily European influenced if we take into account the king's doublet and the queen's long, full-skirted dress.

This representation looks quite similar to the way that these same figures were portrayed in the previous image from Relation du voyage de la Mer du Sud aux cátes du Chily et Perou, and thus we imagine that this sort of ceremonial dress is traditional and has remained constant over time.
